Waezi2 Halloween reading part 14

I have two recommendations more. Starting with a Arkham-free Batman book for a change.
The most of the Batman comics I have owe are mostly those about Arkham, because, well, I'm not the biggest Batman fan.
Dude, I don't HATE Batman, I  just don't care about him the same way as the other heroes! Mostly because I just think I had my fair dose of Batman since I were a kid, with the animated show, the movies and the comics that were one of the few titles I could read translated to Danish. And I just think that Batman is a little bit overrated... Dear god, did I just write that? Look, lets focus on the actual review, shall we?
If you told me four years ago that I should read a book called Batman & Dracula; Red Rain, I would tell you that I were an adult, and didn't have time for such stupid ideas. Man, was I an annoying prat. The first rule about superhero-comics is, that there is no such thing as an bad idea for a story, unless its badly told.
Alright, FINE! There IS such a thing as downright bad ideas, but you get my point. Superhero comics are absurd by definition, and the art in it is to make the absurdity work. And this story does. It a dramatic tale of the fight against evil with great artwork and good dialog, where the Dark Knight has to become even darker than before in order to save Gotham City from Dracula and his army of bloodsuckers. A great book for Halloween.
Darkforce is an energy-source from the Darkforce Dimension that has the ability to assume the properties of both matter and energy depending on the needs of the user. It has granted powers to charterers such as Cloak, who use it to teleportation, or Spot, who use it to create dimensional holes. Henrique Gallante, a young damaged man, unfortunately has the ability to control and manipulate the Darkforce as he is pleased, and use it to spread terror in New York, and only a handful of heroes, including the New Warriors, are there to fight the poor civilians, who are now under his control... Seriously, WHY would anyone live in NYC anymore? Its pretty much a war-zone for supers!
Forces Of Darkness, Forces Of Light is my favorite New Warriors story-line, and besides the Warriors and their bad-ass reserve-member Darkhawk, also has Thing, Spider-Man, Cloak and Dagger and more.

That's the recommendations for this year. Happy Halloween folks.

Waezi2 Halloween reading part 13

More Arkham. This time its the six issue miniseries Arkham Asylum; Living Hell.
Warren Withe, a crooked financier, claims to be insane in an attempt to evade jail. But he learns quickly, that in Gotham City, you are better of in the slammer than in the nuthouse. Withe is in for one hell of a ride, as he meets the most disgusting creatures on the planet first hand. But can he survive the living hell, or will he be consumed?
The day I get tired of reading about Arkham Asylum is the day I get tired of life. This is the greatest tale I have read about Arkham AKA hell on earth. The place that not only contains cruelty and madness, but gives birth to it as well, as we see in this series.
Oh, and it has demons, too, for some reasons...
The world is cruel and unfair: The Astounding Wolf-Man only lasted 25 issues!
Oh, and something about people starving and stuff...
Gary Hampton has it all: Beautiful wife, loving daughter, good job, and he can afford anything they need and want. But then he gets attacked by a werewolf, and... well... the writer is Robert Kirkman who is also the writer of Invincible and Walking Dead, so needless to say, his life is not going to be full of joy.
It's a damn shame that this series was so short-lived, it's my favorite Kirkman comic. And I love the art done by Jason Howard. I haven't seen other comics drawn by him besides Wolf-Man and (dear God NO) Super Dinosaur, but I hope I will.
Highly recommend.

Waezi2 Halloween reading part 12.

Let's start of with possibly the most disturbing comic series I have ever read. YES, more desturbing than Sandman.
What happens when you let an alternative rock-musician write a comic? You get the chaos that is Umbrella Academy; The Apocalypse suite.
Seven children, all born on the same day by women who weren't pregnant, gets adopted by a mysterious man named Hagreeves, who trains the children to become superheroes, so that they one day can save the world.
...Yeah, it needles to say that their childhood... weren't a very happy one.
Today, as adults, their team has disbanded YEARS ago, but when their "father" die, and they all get together to attend his funereal(unwillingly), bad sh%t happens!
This book is insane, but in the good kind of way. It shows how horrifying the superhero genre really can be, when you take it to the max, so to say. Get it as fast as possible, and prepare yourself for mindf%ck!
Everyone loves Zatanna. And it is sad that her own series were published so close to the DC reboot. I have only read the first 6 issues in the TPB called; "Zatanna; The Mistress Of Magic",  but I am VERY satisfied. A great book with a supernatural superhero and lots of demons and other dark creatures of the underworld. I cant wait to read more.
Did I mention that Zatanna is the main character? Then what are you waiting for? GO! Read it already!!!

Waezi2 Halloween reading part 11.

Well, sitting on the streets with a sign is boring... Here are some other recommendations.
I am the first to admit that I am a sucker for romantic stories. So when I heard about The Crow, I just HAD to read it. And let me tell you; it's not a tale for anyone with a week stomach.
When we die, our spirit travels to the afterlife, carried by a crow. But sometimes, that crow let the soul return to the body before it goes on to the afterlife, so the wrongs of the soul can be righted.
Eric is such a soul. He now gets the opportunity to make the butchers of his fiance and himself pay for their crimes.
You may think this is just another superhero story. You could not be more wrong. There is nothing heroic about what Eric does. This is a case of unfinished business, so Eric can go on with peace. Blaine payback, simple as that. A dark story as only a noir comic can tell it.
Science is dangerous. So the Elric brothers must learn the hard way.
After loosing their mother to sickness, Alphonse and Edward Elric decides to master the science of alchemy in order to bringing her back to life. But, like Icarus, they learn how dangerous it is to play God, and pay a huge price.
I think it's needless to say that this manga, sadly, goes a little Dragon Ball in the end, but its actually a great tale about the horrors of science, and two young men trying to restore their humanity. There is plenty of gore in this horror-tale of science, so be prepared.
But i'ts also a lot of fun, too:) Its a manga after all.

I will be back with more recommendations as fast as possible, but I have to visit the big library at Copenhagen first.
See ya.

JLA/Titans in 5 panels

I have said it before, and I will say it again: ALL GOOD COMICS INVOLVES THE MOON!
Please Batman, dont hug me! Cold... So cold...
Hey, who grabbed my butt!?
My god, Cyberion has unleashed the madness of Cool World!
You know, ALL I wanted was to conquer the moon, and THAT somehow makes me a bad guy! GEE!

(By the way; JLA/Titans is flipping awesome.)

Identity Crisis in 5 panels.

This panel wouldn't have been the same without the BURNED corps of Sue Dibny.
Being a rapist makes me a complex character!
I can B-slap the Justice League!... Somehow...
There is something REALLY wrong, when I have the least questionable ethics in this series.
I LOVE FLAMETHROWERS!

(Well... WHY THE FLIP DOES THIS COMIC EXIST?)
